SORRY I MISREAD THE PROBLEM.
3 IS THE ANSWER.
.25*12+x=.40(12+x)
3+x=4.8+.4x
x-.4x=4.8-3
.6x=1.8
x=1.8/.6
x=3 g of tyme is used.
pROOF:
.25*12+3=.4(12+3)
3+3=.4*15
6=6
