a pharmacist wishes to make 1.8 liters of a 10% solution of boric acid by mixing 7.5% and 12% solutions. How much a each type should be used?

EQUATION:
acid + acid = acid
0.075x + 0.12(1.8-x) = 0.10(1.8)
Multiply thru by 1000 to get:
75x + 120*1.8-120x = 100*1.8
-45x = -20*1.8
x = 0.8 liters (amount of 7.5% solution in the mixture)
1.8-0.8 = 1 liter ( amount of 12% solution in the mixture)
