Question 161672: Working on Chemistry homework. Could not understand this problem in class, still don't understand. "The density of an antifreeze soltuion measured .78g/ml. The solution was a mixture of 40% water and 60% antifreeze compound. How many g of antifreeze compound are necessary to prepare 80.0 mL of antifreeze solution?" I tried setting up my equation a couple different ways and I am sure I did not get the right answer. I got 104 g/Antifreeze. Please help me figure out how to set up this equation!
Answer by scott8148(6628) (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
total mass of solution is 80(.78) or 62.4g
BY VOLUME
40% of 80 ml is 32 ml __ water is 1g/ml __ so 32g of water
62.4-32 or 30.4g of antifreeze
BY WEIGHT
60% of 62.4 is 37.4g of antifreeze
