Let x=amount of Lemon Drops needed
Value of Lemon Drops=1.90x ($ understood)
100-x=amount of Jelly Beans needed
Value of Jelly Beans 1.20(100-x)
Value of final mixture=1.48*100
Value of Lemon Drops plus value of Jelly Beans taken separately has to equal the value of the final mixture, so:
1.90x+1.20(100-x)=1.48*100 get rid of parens (distributive property)
1.90x+120-1.20x=148 subtract 120 from each side
1.90x+120-120-1.20x=148-120 collect like terms
0.70x=28 divide each side by 0.70
x=40 lb---------------------------amount of Lemon Drops needed
100-x=100-40=60 lb--------------amount of Jelly Beans needed
