A sales lady sold a book at 35% of the price instead discounting the price by 35%.If she sold the book for 156.00, what was the price for which they should have sold the book?
.
If B = Original price of the book
.
Since she sold it at "35% of the price" at $156:
.35x = 156
x = 156/.35
x = $445.71 (original price of book)
.
They really wanted to sell it at:
445.71 - .35(445.71)
= 445.71(1 - .35)
= 445.71(.65)
= $289.71 (This is what she should have sold it for)
