It says a total of 5 liters required, therefore
(5-x) = amt of 20% solution

Write the decimal equiv equation
.70x + .20(5-x) = .50(5)
:
.70x + 1 - .20x = 2.5
;
.7x - .2x = 2.5 - 1
.5x = 1.5
x = 3 liters of 70% solution, then obviously, 2 liters of 20% solution
