Question 157873: A company has a fruit mixture worth $6 per pound is mixed with nuts worth $11 per pound to get 50 pounds of a trail mixture worth $7.40 per pound. How much of each (fruits & nuts) was used to create this trail mix? Show the system of equations used to solve this. On this problem I know that the mixture is worth $7.40 per pound after mixing, and the 50 pounds of mixture is worth $370 total. I am just sure what to do from there.
Answer by jojo14344(1513) (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Remember the following:
Quantity in pounds:
@ 50lbs total
We have to remember when we mix the fruits and nuts we have Trail Mixture:
------------------------------------> eqn 1
In eqn 1 we get, ----------------------> eqn 2
.
Also, we know the cost per material so when multiplied bu the quantity (lbs) we get total of 50 lbs @ $7.40/lb. To show in eqn:
--------------> eqn 3
Substitute eqn 2 in eqn 3: see
------>
---------------------> this much of mixed
In eqn 2:
---------------> this much of mixed
In doubt? go back eqn 3:
Thank you,
Jojo
