How much water should be added to 6 gallons of pure acid to obtain a 30% solution?
.
Let x = amount of water added
.
"amount of acid" = 30%("total volume")
6 = .30(x+6)
6 = .30x + 1.8
4.2 = .30x
14 gallons = x (this is the amount of water added)
