:
Let x = amt 5% maple syrup
Then
(5 - x) = amt of 100% maple syrup required
:
.05x + 1.0(5-x) = .10(5)
:
.05x + 5 - 1x = .5
:
.05x - 1x = .5 - 5
:
-.95x = -4.5
x =
x = +4.737 qts of the 5% mixture
