Question 136776: Hey, I need help with this problem please. I can't figure it out. Thank you.
A coffeehouse wholesaler wants to blend coffee containing 35% chicory with a coffee containing 15% chicory to produce a 500 pound blend of coffee containing 18% chicory. How much of each type of coffee is required?

Answer by scott8148(6628)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
let x="lb 35% chickory", so 500-x="lb 15% chickory"

x(35%)+(500-x)(15%)=500(18%) __ multiplying by 100 to clear percents __ 35x+7500-15x=9000

20x=1500 __ x=75
