Let x = amt of water required to make a 3% solution
then
(10-x) = amt of 10% solution
:
.10(10-x) = .03(10)
:
1 - .1x = .3
:
-.1x = .3 - 1
:
-.1x = -.7
x =
x = +7 gals of water required
and
10 - 7 = 3 gals of 10% solution required
