how many ounces of vegetable oil containing 10% of saturated fats must be added to 20 ounces containing 22% saturated fats to make a salad dressing containing 16% saturated fats?
Let x ounces of vegetable oil containing 10% be required
10% -------- x
22%---------20 ( saturated fats)
mixture
16% --------(22+x) *0.16
0.1x +0.22*20 = 0.16(22+x)
0.1x + 4.4 = 3.5 + 0.16x
0.06x = 0.9
x =15
15 ounces of vegetable oil containing 10% is required

            @mananth came and wrote some gibberish.

            Forget about it and ignore it,  for your safety.

            So my job now is to bring you the correct solution.

Let x be the volume of the oil containing 10% saturated fat.

Then you write this equation

    0.1x + 0.22*20 = 0.16(x+20).

It says that the sum of saturated fats in ingredients is the same as that in the final mixture.

From the equation.

    x =  = 20.

ANSWER. 20 ounces of the vegetable oil containing 10% of saturated fat should be added.

CHECK.   I will check for the concentration   = 0.16 = 16%.   ! Correct !

The after-solution notice.

    Since 16% is exactly half-way between the 10% and 22%, it is clear without any calculations,

    that the required volume of the 10% saturated fat to add is the same as the volume of the given 22 ounces

    of the 22% saturated fat.
