How many grams of pure water must be added to 40 grams of a 10% saline solution to make a saline solution that is 5% salt?
Very easy, the amt of salt does not change only the amt of liquid
.10(40) = .05(w+40)
4 = .05w + 2
4 - 2 = .05w
2 = .05w
w = 2/.05
w = 40 grams to be added, which is what you would expect if you half the percent
