Question 1161934: A biologist wants to determine the blood volume of a small animal. It has a solution with 4% of a certain inert chemical compound. Inject 2.5 cm^3 of that solution into the animal's blood and wait until it has mixed well with the animal's blood. Take a small sample and the analysis indicates 0.2% of the inert product. What is the volume in cm^3 of the blood that the animal has?

.

Let V be the volume under the problem's question, in cubic centimeters.

Then you have this equation to find V

    0.04*2.5 = 0.002*(V+2.5),

saying that the amount of the inert chemical is the same before and after.

From the equation,

    V =  =  =  =  = 47.5 cm^3.     ANSWER

Solved.
