A 20% solution of fertilizer is to be mixed with a 70% solution of fertilizer in order to get 50 gallons of a 60% solution. How many gallons of the 20% solution and 70% solution should be mixed?

t = amount of 20%
s = amount of 70%
---
t + s = 50 --- total solution
20t + 70s = 50*60 --- total fertilizer
etc

60% is 4/5 of the way from 20% to 70%.
Therefore, 4/5 of the mixture is the 70% solution.

4/5 of 50 gallons is 40 gallons. So

ANSWER: 40 gallons of the 70% solution, 10 gallons of the 20% solution.
