let x stand for the number of liters of the 25% solution
:
let y stand for the number of liters of the 85% solution
:
x + y = 80, therefore
:
x = (80-y)
:
0.40 * 80 = 32 liters of acid
:
0.25(80-y) + 0.85y = 32
:
20 - 0.25y + 0.85y = 32
:
0.60y = 12
:
y = 20
:
x = 80 - 20 = 60
:
