Question 1112063: two trains are 330 miles apart and their speeds differ by 40 mph they travel toward each other and meet in three hours find the speed of each train
Answer by ikleyn(52788)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
.
Distance + distance = total distance

3r       + 3*(r+40) = 330

3r + 3r + 120 = 330

6r = 330 - 120 = 210  ====>  r =  = 35.

Answer. The slower train rate is 35 mph. The faster train rate is 35+40 = 75 mph.
