Ooo, candies . . . lovely product . . .

Let x = the amount of $4.30 candy (in pounds).

Then the amount of  $9.10 candy to mix with is, OBVIOUSLY, (43.2-x) pounds.


Then your "money" equation is

4.30*x + 9.10*(43.2-x) = 8.10*43.2    dollars.


The setup is completed.  Now you should solve the equation to get x.

The problem can be solved quickly using the method of alligation.

Represent the $4.30 candy as x and the $9.10 candy as y.

Then 8.10-4.30=3.80 and 9.10-8.10=1. So that x/y=1/3.80

To find the quantity of x relative to the mixture:

(1/4.80)(43.2)=9 lb (Answer)

y= 43.2-9=34.2 lb (Answer)
