.
0.08*x + 0.14*(240-x) = 0.12*240,

0.08x + 0.14*240 - 0.14x = 0.12*240,

-0.06x = 0.12*240 - 0.14*240  ====>  -0.06x = -0.02*240  ====>  x =  = 80.

Answer. 80 mL of the 8% vinegar and (240-80) = 160 mL of the 14% vinegar.

A cook might do that but not a chef. A chef will make his/her own from scratch. or have a sous chef do it.
We want to know how many mL. at 8% to mix with 14%.
We need a total of 240 mL. at 12%
Using the method of alligation.
14         4 4/6*240=160 mL of 14% solution
      12     160+80= 240 mL of 12% solution
8          2 2/6*240=80 mL of 8% solution
           6
