Let x be that amount under the question, in cubic centimeters.

Then you have this equation

0.12x + 0.22*80 = 0.16*(80+x),

which represents the salt mass balasnce.


To solve the equation, multiply its both sides by 100, to get it easier. You will get

12x + 22*80 = 16*80 + 16x,

22*80 - 16*80 = 16x - 12x,

4x = 6*80  ====>  x =  = 6*20 = 120.


Answer.  120 cc of the 12% saline solution must be added.
