I'm trying to work on mixture problems but I don't understand how you tell which % is the solute and which is the solvent?
For example, A physician asks that 250ml of a 15% solution to be prepared from a stock supply of 80% solution.
How many milliliters of the solute are needed?
How many milliliters of the solvent are needed?
I believe I could work the problem out if I understood how to tell which is which.

the solute is the material you are working in.
it is immersed in the solvent which can be another material that you are not working with, such as water.

in your problem, i believe you want 15% solute and 85% solvent for a total of 250 milli-liters.

your source is a solution that is 80% solute and 20% solvent.
