A chemist mixed some 15% peroxide solution ith some 6% peroxide solution to make 300 ML of a 9% peroxide solution. How many milliliters of the 15% solution was used?
----------
Follow the active ingredient.
--------------
15% solution DATA:
Amt = x ML ; amt of active ingredient = 0.15x ML
---------------
6% solution DATA:
Amt = "300-x"ML ; amt of active ingredient = 0.06(300-x)= 18-0.06x ML
----------------
9% Mixture DATA:
Amt = 300 ML; active = 0.09*300 = 27 ML
EQUATION:
active + active = active
0.15x + 18-0.06x = 27
0.09x = 9
x = 100 ML (amt of 15% solution needed in the mixture)
