Our teacher wants us to set up two equations for each problem, and solve them with substitution or elmination. This is what I have tried so far:

50x + 40y = 275

A bookkeeper saves 1/10th of his weekly salary, or 1$ more than the salesman saves. The salesman's salary is 5 dollars a week more than the bookkeepers. The salesman only saves 1/13th of his salary. How much does each earn, and how much does each save?
Sum of three numbers is 55. The first is 8-2x (eight minus 2 times) the second number. The second number is 1+3x (one plus 3 times) the third number. What are the numbers?
