Question 999458: two buses leave towns 1100km apart at the same time and travel toward each other. One bus travels 12km/h faster than the other. If they meet in 5 hrs, what is the rate of each bus?
Answer by mananth(16946)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Bus 1 x mph
Bus 2 x+ 12 km/h
..
They are moving towards each other

So add up their speed.

combined speed = x+ 1 x 12
( 2 x + 12 )
Time = 5 hours
Distance = 1100 miles
Distance = speed * time
( 2 x 12 )* 5 = 1100
10.00 x + 60 = 1100
10 x = 1100 + -60
10 x = 1040
/ 10
x= 104 mph
Bus 1 = 104 mph
Bus 2 104 + 12 = 116 km/h
