"Some students are washing cars for a fundraiser. They will raise $10 for each car they wash. The expenses for setting up the car wash (for soap etc) are $20. Define a variable and write an expression for a quantity that is relevant to this context"

Students would work for free in this case. Assign variables for number of cars washed and for profit.

The profit will be revenue minus cost.

Choices can vary but must be consistant within each persons own problem solving for the description.
