let m = the no. of members making the trip
then
= the original cost for each member
:
original cost - 5 more member cost = 5000
- = 5000
simplify, divide by 5000
- = 1
multiply equation by m(m+5), cancel the denominators and you have
45(m+5) - 45m = m(m+5)
45m + 225 - 45m = m^2 + 5m
combine as quadratic equation on the right
0 = m^2 + 5m - 225
no integer solution ???
