Let the distance for the trip be 3x::

time for 1st (1/3) of trip x/(4kmh)
----
time for 2nd (1/3) of trip x/(8kmh)
-----
time for 3rd (1/3) of trip x/(6kmh)
-----
Equation:
(x/4) + x/8 + x/6 = 9 3/4 hrs
------
Multiply thru by 24 to get:
6x + 3x + 4x = 6*39
13x = 6*39
x = 18
Ans: Total distance = 3x = 54 km
