Question 990967: A chemist mixed pure acid with water to make 10 L of a 40% acid solution. How much pure acid and how much water did the chemist use?

The acid is 40% of the 10 liters. 40% * 10 L or 0.40 * 10 L equals 4 liters. If the total is 10 L and 4 L is acid, 10-4 or 6 L must be water.
Acid= 4 L
Water=6 L
