L + C = 54.....(1)
Craig earns six less than four times the amount
that Lori earns in one hour.
C = 4L - 6 .....(2)
Substitute (4L - 6) from Eq(2)
into Eq(1)
L + C = 54.....(1)
L + (4L - 6) = 54
Collect like terms
5L = 54 + 6
5L = 60
L = 12
Lori earns $12
Craig earns $54 - $12
= $42
