Question 976938: At a campsite, I pound a post into the ground 1 meter from my tent. If my angle of elevation is 57 degrees, how much rope do I need from the post to the top edge of my tent?
Answer by Cromlix(4381) (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Consider that the rope to the tent
is the hypotenuse of a right angled triangle.
The distance of 1 metre on ground is the
adjacent side of the triangle.
Using trigonometric ratio:-
Cosine = Adjacent/Hypotenuse
Cosine 57 degrees = 1 metre/ Hypotenuse
Therefore Hypotenuse (Length of rope)
= 1 metre/ Cosine 57 degrees
= 1.84 metres (2 decimal places)
Hope this helps :-)
