Question 96986: The length of a rectangle is 3 in. more than twice its width. If the perimeter of the rectangle is 36 in., find the width of the rectangle.
Answer by mathslover(157) (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
let the length be L
and the width be w
given L = w + 3
perimeter of a rectangle = 2( l + w)
therefore we have
36 = 2( l + w)
36= 2( w +3 + w)
transposing the like terms
4w =30
w=30/4= 7.5
length = 7.5 + 3 = 10.5
Length=10.5
Width=7.5
