Question 957303: Hi, I was given a question on my homework dealing with scientific notation. The question says that "The distance light travels in one second (one light-second) is about 1.86 x 10^5 mi. Saturn is about 475 light-seconds from the sun. About how many miles from the sun is Saturn?".
I gave him the answer (8.838 x 10^7 mi) and he told me that it takes about 8.5 minute for light to reach the Earth, which is 510 seconds. He asked me why it takes longer for light to reach the Earth than it does Saturn. I have not been able to find an answer to this question, and I am continuing to search.

Saturn is not 475 light-seconds from the Sun. It's a lot farther than that.
