Answer by checkley75(3666)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
JAY=3*SUE
SUE-5=LARRY
3*SUE+SUE+SUE-5=135
5SUE=135+5
5SUE=140
SUE=140/5
SUE=$28 FOR SUE.
JAY=3*28=$84 FOR JAY.
LARRY=28-5=$23 FOR LARRY
PROOF
28+84+23=135
135=135

Answer by edjones(8007)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Let: Sue=S Jay=3S Larry=S+5
S+3S+S+5=135
Combine terms and subtract 5 from each side. 5S=130
Divide both sides by 5. S=26
Sue has $26
Jay has $78
Lar has $31
-----------
======>$135
