You'll need to find the area of the floor first. You do this by multiplying the
length of the two different sides of the room, the 10' and 14' measurements
you are given in the problem. You can get a visual look at this if you have a
piece of graph paper. Cut it so that you have a rectangle 10 squares wide
and 14 squares long. Each square represents one tile. You can either count
them by hand (whew), or you can multiply 10 X 14 = 140 tiles. You can always
find the area of a rectangle by multiplying the two sides together. Think of
the graph paper and you'll see why.

I assume the you mean the tiles are 1 ft. x 1 ft. and the room is 10ft. x 14 ft.
So the square feet of 1 tile is 1 sq. ft.
The square footage of the room is 140 Sq.ft.
so: 140 sq.ft / 1 sq.ft/tile = 140 tiles
