Question 927680: During a snowstorm last winter, a power outage caused 60% of the schools in the Winterpeg school district to close for the day. Of the schools that did not close, one quarter opened late. If 21 schools opened on time, how many schools are there in the Winterpeg school district?
Answer by srinivas.g(540)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
a power outage caused 60% of the schools in the Winterpeg school district to close for the day
percentage of schools did not close = (100-60)= 40 %
out of 40 % ,one quarter opened late (1.e (1/4)*40 % =10%)
Remaining 30 % opened on time
but no fo schools opened on time = 21
let x be the total no of schools
hence
30 % of x = 21

multiply with 100 on both sides

divide with 30 on both sides

x= 70
no of schools in the Winterpeg school district are (x)=70
