Question 909317: The Alabama State Fair charges an entrance fee plus an additional $2 per ride. You’ve been on 7 rides and have $50 left in your wallet. Assuming you only spend money on rides and aren’t robbed, how much money would you have left in your wallet after you’ve been on 8 rides? 17 rides? 27 rides. Write an Equation.
Answer by JulietG(1812) (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
If you've ALREADY been on 7 rides, then you have already paid the entrance fee and $14, with $50 left in your wallet.
How much you'll have left is 50-2(x-7), where 8 is the number of rides
8 rides INCLUDING the 7 you've already been on -- 50-2(8-7) = 50-2 = 48
17 rides " -- 50-2(17-7) = 50-20 = 30
27 rides " -- 50-2(27-7) = 50-40 = 10
It must include the 7 you've already been on, otherwise the 27 is an impossibility (27*2=$54 and you only have $50)
