Answer by jim_thompson5910(35256) (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
He lost 220 - 180 = 40 pounds
Divide this by the original weight he starts with (220) to get 40/220
With all fractions, it's a good idea to reduce. So let's do so:
40/220 = (4*10)/(22*10)
40/220 = 4/22
40/220 = (2*2)/(2*11)
40/220 = 2/11
He lost 2/11 of his original weight.
So if you multiplied 2/11 by 220, you should get 40.
(2/11)*220 = (2*220)/11 = 440/11 = 40
and we do, so that confirms the answer of 2/11
