Question 892095: If I had one apple and a half more than what I have, I would have 1.5 times what I have. How many apples do I have?
Answer by Theo(13342)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
let x equal the number of apples that you have.

x + 1.5 = 1.5 * x

subtract x from both sides of the equation to get;

1.5 = .5 * x

divide both sides of the equation by .5 to get:

1.5 / .5 = x

solve for x to get x = 3

3 + 1/5 = 4.5

1.5 * 3 = 4.5
