Pressure varies inversely as volume. When the pressure is 16 pascals, the volume is 84 liters. What would the volume be if the pressure is reduced to 12 pascals?
--------------
P = k/V
Need to find k.
16 = k/84
k= 1344
EQUATIOn:
P = 1344/V
12 = 1344/V
V=1344/12
V = 112 liters

Answer by Earlsdon(6294) (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
You can write the proportion from the given data:
The pressure varies inversely as the volume, so:
where k is the proportionality constant. This can be written:
When:
P = 16 Pascals.
V = 84 liters, then:
So the proportionality equation is:
or
Substitute V = 12 Pascals and solve for V.
Liters.
