Question 866918: You are given the vertex of a parabola and a point along the parabola. Do you have enough information to determine the equation of the parabola? If so, how do you? If not, what more do you need?
I'm pretty sure that you can solve this problem by inserting a number into the equaion of the parabola, either the vertex form: y= a(x-h)^2+k
or standard form:y=ax^2 + bx + c but I'm not sure where to go afterwards

Yes. Why? Knowing a point on the parabola, the symmetry around the axis lets you be certain that the function value is the same |x| units away on the other side of the axis of symmetry. A y value on a parabola has two values of x which give that y value (for a parabola with a vertical symmetry axis).
