jessica gets 2700 and spends 1/3 on food 1/3 on clothes and 1/9 on entertainment how much does she have left? show work.
-------------------------------------------
1st.) Find out how much she spent.
1/3+1/3+1/9=?
Get common denominator.
(3/3)x(1/3)+(3/3)x(1/3)+(1/9)=?
(3/9)+(3/9)+(1/9)=?
(6/9)+(1/9)= 7/9
-------------------------------------------
2nd.) Find the fraction that represents the amount she has left.
We know that 7/9 represents the amount she spent already, so she will had 2/9 left, since 7/9+2/9= 9/9 or 1.
So she has 2/9 left.
-------------------------------------------
3rd.) Multiply the dollar amount by the fraction that represents the amount she has left.
$2,700x(2/9)=$600
-------------------------------------------
Answer: Jessica will have $600 left.
-------------------------------------------
**Note** You could just use 7/9 (the amount that was spent) and multiply by $2,700, which would give you $2,100 (the dollar amount spent). Just make sure you subtract $2,100 from the original amount($2,700) to give you the new amount of money.
