Question 824351: If each side of a square is increased by 3cm , its area is increased by 45cm^2. Find the length of a side of the original square.
Answer by jim_thompson5910(35256) (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
(x+3)^2 = x^2 + 45
x^2 + 6x + 9 = x^2 + 45
x^2 + 6x + 9 - x^2 = 45
6x + 9 = 45
6x = 45 - 9
6x = 36
x = 36/6
x = 6
The side length of the original square is 6 cm
