Answer by stanbon(75887)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
On a mother's 25-mile commute to work, she drops her daughter off at a child care center. The first part of the trip is 7 miles less than the second part. How long is each part of her morning commute?
x + x+7 = 25
2x = 18
x = 9
----------------
first part:: 9 mi
second part:: x+7 = 16 mi

Comment: You can check the algebra but you have to
correctly interpret the wording of the problem; no
check for that except to read it again.
