Question 81527: A store received $823 from the sale of 5 tape recorders and 7 radios. If the receipts from the tape recorders exceeded the receipts from the radios by $137, what is the price of a tape recorder?
Answer by jainenderkapoor(61)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!

Let the price of tape recorder = $x and price of radio = $y
we have 5x + 7y = 823 --- (1)
and 5x -7y = 137 --- (2)

adding both equations we get
10x = 823-137 = 960
x = 960/10 = 96
putting this value of x in (1)
5(96) + 7y = 823
480 + 7y = 823
7y = 823-480 = 343
y = 343/7 = 49
therefore cost of taperecorder is $96 and of radio is $49
Hope the solution is clear to you. If you have any doubt, you can contact me on jainenderkapoor@gmail.com I am also available for online tutoring at very reasonable rates.
