Question 793858: in a baseball league of ten teams from different cities, each pair of teams is to play three games. Is it possible to arrange the schedule so that the same number of games are played in each of the ten cities?
here what i have:
so i said "well if you have 10 teams and choose 3 cities it equals 120 and if you do 120 divided by 10 it equals 12, so you cant have 12 different games when you're only supposed to have 10 games? Can you please help me? I would really appreciate the time and effort.
Answer by edjones(8007) (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
If each team plays ONE game against every other team then the 10 teams are involved in 90 games.
Two teams are in each game. 90/2=45 games actually played of 2 teams each.
Three games are required against each team. 45*3=135
135/10=13.5 games per stadium. Therefore the same number of games can't be played in each of the ten cities.
