This problem is asking you to find the hypoteneuse of a
right triangle with the 2 other sides given.
To solve this, use the pythagorean theorem:
where c is the hypotenuese while
a and b are the other 2 sides.
So, for your problem,
Solve for c by taking the square root of both sides:
There is also a trick to problems like this. If you recognize that
the triangle is an isosceles right triangle (i.e. two sides are equal),
then the hypoteneuse is always where s is one side.
