Question 785823: How do I solve this problem? I keep getting 0 for t2 and i know that can't be right. i understand that average speed equals total distance divided by total time. total distance in this problem is 2 miles. Is t1 equal to 1/30 hrs?
The Millers were visiting their grandmother 2 miles away. Mr. Miller’s goal was to average 60 miles per hour for their trip. During the first mile, they traveled at 30 mph. How fast must they drive during the 2nd mile in order to reach Mr. Miller’s goal of 60 mph for the 2 mile trip?

Target is 2 minutes (60mi /hour) ---2 miles
They go
0.5 mile in 1 minute (30mph)
he has to go 1.5 miles in 1 more minute
1 minute --------- 1.5 miles
60 minutes ---------?
60*1.5 = 90 mph
