I have an answer of 2 miles and doesn't sound correct to me. Could I ask for the proper formula set up on this question below?
A ferry leaves a harbor and travels to a resort island at an average speed of 18 mph. On the return trip, because of fog, the ferry travels at an average speed of 12 mph. The total time for the trip is 5 h. How far is the island from the harbor?

Let the distance from the harbor to the island, or vice versa, be D
Then time the ferry took to travel from the harbor to the island = ()

Also, time taken by the ferry to travel from the island to the harbor = ()

Since total time taken to travel both ways = 5 hours, then we can say that:

2D + 3D = 180 ------- Multiplying by LCD, 36

5D = 180

D, or distance from the harbor to the island, or vice versa = , or miles
