Question 751262: A rectangle is 2 feet longer than it is wide. The area of the rectangle is 48 square feet. Write and solve an equation that can be used to find the width of the rectangle.
Answer by Cromlix(4381)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Width = x
Length = x +2
x(x + 2) = 48
x^2 + 2x = 48
x^2 + 2x - 48 = 0
(x + 8)(x - 6) = 0
So x = 6 (x = -8 no solution)
Width = 6 feet
Length = 8 feet
Hope this helps
