A^2+B^2=C^2
X^2+(X+1)^2=4^2
X^2+X^2+2X+1=16
2X^2+2X+1-16=0
2X^2+2X-15=0
2X^2+2X-15=0
USING THE QUADRATIC EQUATION WE GET
X=(-2+-SQRT[2^2-4*2*-15])/2*2
X=(-2+-SQRT4+120])/4
X=(-2+-SQRT124)/4
X=(-2+-11.13)/4
X=(-2+11.13)/4
X=9.13/4
X=2.28 ANSWER.
X=(-2-11.13)/4
